WHO WE ARE

SAVE was created in 1998 when the Spanish all-inclusive hotel chains (that had just been kicked out of Spain) started buying up the Riviera Maya coastline, 80% to be more specific. When these Spaniards started tearing out coral reefs, filling in protected mangroves, etc… we had to take a stand.

We knew that standing up for ecology would be a dangerous and/or risky platform, so we started SAVE, a not for profit grassroots organization. We needed a safe space to speak out. Since its conception, SAVE has been diligently defending this most spectacular coastline. We have also moved on to defend many animals and plants against thoughtless land degrading projects.
